Latest update from BT is that the cable repair ship should be in Orkney this week, which if all goes to plan and the weather cooperates, should see the cable repaired and services restored by mid-April.</div></div>

dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit; text-align: start;">The cable repair itself involves disturbing the seabed in protected marine areas and therefore requires exemptions. These requests have all been approved so the weather is the only unpredictable thing at play. We will be kept posted on progress through this week.</div></div>

dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit; text-align: start;">In the meantime, quite a lot of work has been done to reconnect key public sector sites in particular, using 4G/Starlink hubs. Good progress made and hopefully you\u2019re seeing evidence of that on the ground.</div></div>

dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit; text-align: start;">VMO2 have confirmed that they have completed work to bring back all three of their mobile mast sites on Westray, Sanday and North Ronaldsay, utilising Starlink as backhaul. That should hopefully mean that 4G and other mobile services are more reliable than they were immediately after the break.</div></div>
