launched the Save Our Screen
Machine public fundraising
campaign. Without urgent
investment the Screen
Machine mobile cinema
service will end. We
unveiled a short film that
gives full details of the
campaign. If you've not yet
had a chance to watch it,
then scroll down and follow
the link.<br>

We aim to raise an initial
£100,000 so we can
demonstrate the service's
value to the Scottish
Government and other
potential funders, and
convince them to provide us
with the remaining money for
the £800,000 needed to pay a
deposit to start the build
of the new cinema. We will
then use the 12-18 month
construction period to bring
in the balance.<br>
<br>
The fundraiser has got off
to a good start and raised
over £14,000 from almost 300
supporters. But there is
still a very long way to go.
If all of the 8,000 people
who receive this newsletter
made a donation, then
success would be within
touching distance.
Similarly, if the buyers of
our approximately 21,000
tickets per year contributed
to the campaign, we could be
much more confident of
reaching our target very
soon. We cannot stress
enough that without a new
mobile cinema the Screen
Machine service will end.

was parked outside the
Scottish Parliament to act
as a venue for an event
hosted by Screen Scotland.
While this took us away from
touring our usual locations,
these were two significant
days that gave us the
opportunity to advocate the
Screen Machine service to
MSPs. We received visits
from Jenni Minto (MSP for
Argyll & Bute), Ross
Greer (MSP for West of
Scotland) and Angus
Robertson, the Cabinet
Secretary for the
Constitution, External
Affairs and Culture. Inside
Parliament we spoke with
other MSPs: Kaukab Stewart
(Minister for Equalities)
and Liam McArthur (MSP for
Orkney).<br>

During the event itself, we
screened a range of
different films from
Animation Scotland, BBC
Scotland, Film & Screen
Access Organisations, GMAC
Film, MG Alba, The Portal
Studios, Scottish
Documentary Institute and
Short Circuit, as well as a
special screening of <strong><em>The
Outrun</em></strong>,
starring Saoirse Ronan. It
was an uplifting experience
to meet so many talented
people in the Scottish
screen industry.<br>

We were also joined by two
colleagues from
Toutenkamion, the French
company that will build SM3,
who were happy to discuss
the finer aspects of mobile
cinemas.<br>
