the Screen Machine service
will end. We need your help
to fundraise for a new
mobile cinema that will
secure the service into the
2040s.<br>

We are grateful for all the
letters and emails of
support you sent to MSPs and
other representatives in
late 2023. They were a huge
help in extending
Cinemobile's lease until
April 2026. Nevertheless,
the Scottish Government has
yet to commit to any funding
towards the approximate £1.7
million cost for a new
mobile cinema.<br>
<br>
While the extension of
Cinemobile's lease allows us
to continue to bring films
to communities with
otherwise no access to
cinema, it is only
temporary, and does not
allow us to bring the full
service that we want to.
Cinemobile was not designed
and built to be opened and
closed as regularly as we
require. It cannot navigate
ferries and slipways as ably
as our custom-built Screen
Machine, and it cannot reach
all of our communities, with
the Isles of Jura and Rousay
without service since
January 2023.<br>
<br>
We need a new mobile cinema
and can no longer afford to
wait for a Government
response. We are today
launching a crowdfunding
campaign to raise at least
£100,000 to get the project
rolling. Its success will
help us get started on the
first phase of commissioning
the build, and prove to the
Scottish Government the
value of the service and the
urgent need for their
contribution. It is vital
that we raise these funds so
the project can begin this
year. We need approximately
£800,000 to place an order
and start the build, which
will take between 12 to 18
months. <br>

We are delighted that star
of stage and screen, Alan
Cumming, and one of
Scotland's best known folk
rock band Tide Lines, have
thrown their weight behind
the campaign by providing
their time and talents to
produce a short information
film - Save Our Screen
Machine - which you can
watch above. The film was
coordinated by Advertising
Agency, Collective London,
where there is a strong
personal link with the
Screen Machine - we'll tell
you more about that in a
future newsletter.
