ICJ Name Change in Local Newsletter – July 2026

We would like to let you know about an update to the Improving the 
Cancer Journey service. The service is now called Improving the Care 
Journey (ICJ). This reflects an expansion of the service beyond cancer, 
while continuing to support all those affected by cancer across Orkney.

ICJ remains a Macmillan-funded service and there is no change to how the 
service operates. People affected by cancer will continue to receive the 
same level of non-clinical, person-centred support.

The name change allows us to begin supporting people living with 
selected long-term conditions. We have started with cardiac conditions, 
and we aim to expand to additional long-term conditions over time. This 
development will enable more people to access support with the wider, 
non-clinical impacts of their health condition, such as financial 
concerns, emotional wellbeing, and practical issues.

The referral process remains the same. The new referral and 
self-referral forms are also available on the NHS Orkney website:
