*_75 Years of Orkney’s North Isles Sports_*

**As I feared, there are mistakes in my first book, /75 Years of
Orkney’s North Isles Sports/, and during 2025, I have found some, and
readers have found others. Some are errors of omission or oversight;
some (like the 1983 Champions) have resulted in failure to credit the
correct winners.
*I have created an errata slip which will fit neatly into the space on
p. vi of the book. Please email me if you would like a copy of that set
of corrections.

*_7_**_5th North Isles Sports - Sanday 21^st June 2025_*

Towards the end of 2025, Sanday Community Council/SSE Windfarm Community
Fund agreed to fund a ‘companion volume’ to celebrate the 75th North
Isles Sports. This book details the preparations leading up to the day
itself and gives a chronological account of all the individual track and
field events. Illustrations depict some of those preparations and all of
the individual event winners, as well as all of the teams taking part in
the Junior and Senior Football and Netball competitions, and the Tug o’ War.
Up-to-date tables are included for record holders and members of the
North Isles Sports Hall of Fame (All-Round Champions for three
successive years), and there is a chapter describing the appearance of
several North Isles athletes in the Island Games held in Kirkwall in
July 2025.
There is also a section dealing with the ‘value’ of athletic
performances, using the points tables issued by World Athletics. This
includes comparisons of record holders in the North Isles Sports, Orkney
record holders, International Island Games record holders, and World
record holders.
I am very pleased that Jennifer Graham (Stronsay) has agreed, again, to
be proofreader, and designer, so the format of the book will be very
much the same:
identical dimensions
175 pages
225 illustrations
index of 260 names.
And the price (on the North Isles) is likely to be the same – £15. All
income from sales will revert to Sanday Community Council.
It would be very helpful to have an idea of the number of folk who would
like to buy a copy of the book, in order to ensure that the print-run is
realistic (last time, demand was greater than anticipated, and a second
printing was required).
If you would like to buy a copy, please contact one of these three
*(_before 15th April_):

*       Roderick Thorne on Sanday*nearhouse at triscom.co.uk*

*Gina and Ian have kindly agreed to make a list of those who would like
to reserve a copy. With luck, the ‘launch date’ will be Saturday 20^th
June, North Isles Sports Day on Stronsay.
Many thanks to all who bought the ‘History Book’; I hope that you may be
interested in this record of just one celebration of the unique North
Isles Sports.
