 From Alan Taylor (Scottish Water):

Although it may not seem it, winter has arrived. As such, I would like
to ask our customers to take a few minutes to carry out a few simple
checks to safeguard against frozen pipes and subsequent bursts. Not only
will a burst pipe cause considerable damage within a property it can
also be expensive if you happen to be on a metered supply and it goes
undetected.
To prevent any unwanted surprises, I would be grateful if you could keep
an eye on properties that are unoccupied over the coming months. This
also includes outside taps and field troughs. If troughs in more remote
locations are not required, it may be worth turning off the water and
draining them to prevent frost damage.
As I've previously mentioned, if you need any advice, please feel free
to speak to the local team who will be happy to advise.
Many thanks
Alan
