On Saturday, our league team travelled in to take part in the Peedie
Schools Tournament – playing against teams from across all three league
levels. The girls played some of their best netball of the season, with
brilliant teamwork and determination throughout. After an early start
(and maybe a late night the night before for some of the team!!) and the
hours on the ferry, the heavy legs started to show by the end – but the
spirit never faded!
It was also an emotional day as we said goodbye to Freya, playing her
final matches before moving up to secondary. The team gave her a good
send-off – carrying her off the court after her final game. We’ll miss
you, Freya!
Then on Sunday, it was back to Kirkwall and it was the P4/5 team’s turn
– and what a day they had! Charlie and Ruaridh took on their first full
programme of competitive matches, joining teammates Ula, Hannah and
Eilidh (returning for a second day of play).
And wow – they clicked straight away, going undefeated through their six
league-phase matches with a great goal tally and some remarkable long
distance goals!
In the quarter-finals, they faced Firth Vikings and after a nail-biting
2-2 draw at half time and no goals in the second half due to the tight
defending by both teams, it came down to earlier goal tallies – and
Stronsay were through to the semis!
Next up: Stromness. It was a tight game, but tired legs acted against
us. Stromness took the win and headed to the final, while Stronsay made
a sprint finish for the boat!
Massive well done to all the players (and support crew!) – your teamwork
and energy were incredible.
Thanks also to Shae and Freya for scoring today, and to Arya and Martha
for stepping up with umpiring duties over the weekend. A brilliant
weekend all round, and that’s Fun5z 2024/25 season done! ✔️
