π¨ Nematodirus Warning for Orkney Farmers π¨
Heads up to all sheep farmers across Orkney β conditions are now ideal
for a Nematodirus outbreak. With the recent rise in temperatures
following a cool spell, hatching is likely to occur rapidly, putting
lambs aged 6β12 weeks at high risk of infection.
π What to watch for:
Sudden onset of scouring (diarrhoea)
Lethargy or poor appetite
Unexpected deaths in young lambs
π Speak to us about faecal egg counts and treatment options. Early
intervention is key β many cases are fatal if left untreated.
π§ Be extra vigilant before clinical signs appear, especially if your
flock has a history of nematodirosis.
π Orkney conditions are matching high-risk patterns reported elsewhere
in Scotland, so stay alert.
Please share with other local farmers to help prevent losses this season. π
