Stronsay Development Trust Hosts N76, Orkney & Shetland Colleagues –
Sunshine and Project Updates!
Today, we rolled out the blue skies and sunshine to welcome visitors
from development groups from across Orkney and Shetland, along with
colleagues from the N76 project groups in Dumfries & Galloway and East
Ayrshire as part of the Community Energy Scotland Rural Energy Hubs
project focussed on Community Transport 🚶🚶♀️🚲🚖🚌🛥️
After an early start on the ferry, the group got stuck into a day of
project updates, discussions and scenic walks/tours! Highlights of the
visit included the Men’s Shed at the Mission Hall, the boatie hoose and
tidal toilets(!), the community greenhouse, Beechwood housing, and
top-tier food at Stronsay Hotel & Pub, featuring an excellent breakfast
and a cracking curry for lunch.
Along the way, there was plenty of discussion about community
development, rural and island challenges, and—thanks to one particularly
speedy driver who didn’t slow down for our sizeable group—an unexpected
but very enthusiastic national snap survey on inconsiderate drivers!
Turns out, whether you’re in Orkney, Shetland, Dumfries & Galloway, or
East Ayrshire, there’s always one!
Speaking of ferries, we may have just witnessed Orkney Ferries busiest
Nordic Sea sailing from Stronsay yet this refit—proof that when it comes
to community development, we can quite literally pack them in!
A massive thanks to all who made the trip—we loved having you and keep
in touch!
